Entry for October 28, 2006

so here it is the first official blog of the jungle rooster.  sorry we've been somewhat delayed in getting this going but there's been alot going on.  first of all we want to thank everyone who has been supporting us since day one.  let's have  a little history lesson.  Jason started this band 7 years or so ago and is the only original member.  i (dan) started a year after that (good thing jason saved my phone number for a year seeing that he DOGGED me when i first called him..LOL).  Then we added Rock Ferguson to the linup on the 1st of 06.  now here's where it gets tricky and you'll notice that we have 5 guys on the website but only 4 ever show up to gigs (even that's to much but i guess everyone needs a bass player) and the reason is that we have 2 drummers.  rich lund who can be with us on sporatic engagements has been w/us for about 2 years now and plays specifically on the cover gigs.  the newest addition to jr has been Mike Alstrand who plays for all of the original shows and splits duty w/Rich on the cover shows.  Mike has been punished by God to be friends with Rock for most of his life....i guess we never get to really choose our own punishments...and through Rock is how Mike found his way into the Jungle Rooster fold.  So that's it in a nutshell for anyone who's writing a biography on the Jungle Rooster band.

so what's up right now.  we are in the middle (possibly end) of mixing 2 new songs that we are hoping to get on 107.7 the bone for the local licks show.  it takes alot of time and money and we have little of both so that's why the delay.   the songs are It's Settled, and Blast Off, both of which you can hear us play at our cover shows and original shows (that's if Mike is playing).  they turned out very well so we are excited.  we are writing some new tunes, trying to really make some kind of a sound besides just whatever comes out.  we all come from varied backgrounds of writing so trying to meld that all together and come out w/something that has a style is somewhat of a trick.  our newest tune which is still in it's fetal stages is called "Kill the Wounded and Eat the Dead",  it's a love song (not).  The stuff we are writing is starting to become more bass/drum oriented as we only have one guitar player and the bottom tends to drop out during solos when he's not playing rhythm.  we figured since Rock and Mike sort of know how to play then we'll let them do the heavy lifting while Jason gets to fuck around and do whatever he wants over the top.  me?  i always fuck around so i don't count in the mix.  the thought is a cross between the whole zeppelin/sabbath thing w/van halen of course meets the mama's and the papa's.  so there you have it.  i promise i will write more frequent updates about gigs and everything.  i promise it won't be boring and will try to give you all an interesting look into what a rock band does, how it works, how it can be heaven and hell all wrapped into one...fun meets business.  well we got a gig tonight at the florence in niles so i better shut up and roll.  can't wait to see all you crazy mutha's tonight cause it's halloween madness!!!  keep on rockin
